SANGHA: Wellness Center & SPA

Suzhou, China

Sangha, a pedestrian oriented live-work-learn community focused on helping people learn to live well (physically, emotionally, and socially), is a 46-acre development located on Yangcheng Lake, a UNESCO world heritage site on the periphery of Suzhou, China, that features single-family residences, apartments, hotels, a medical clinic, an East/West wellness center, a food hall and food markets, a conference/learning center, a childhood learning center, and an innovation gallery among numerous other components.

One of Sangha’s key components is the Wellness Center. Located adjacent to and below the At One Hotel, the Wellness Center is a therapeutic facility that combines eastern and western traditions for health. Entered on the upper level of a double height space, it welcomes guests with a café/lounge, pharmacy, and consultation rooms where one is interviewed, statistics are taken, and individual programs are developed. Twenty-four treatment rooms, each with shower and bath, offer a range of body treatments. A Japanese hot springs (onsen) and a hammam type pool provide more sybaritic experiences, as do the watsu massage, rhassoul clay treatments, salt cave sauna, herbal soaks, and kneipp walks. The center’s staff include nutritionists, yoga and meditation teachers, life and fitness coaches, and Ayurvedic therapists. There is a lap pool and a play pool for children, featuring a beach and a large mosaic mural of children splashing in water - with actual water spouting from their mouths.
